The Potter County ARES® Group is an organized group of Amateur Radio Operators

who volunteer their time and their own radio equipment in service to the

Potter County community during emergency events affecting our region.

The Potter County ARES® Group serves the following

Organizations and Governmental Agencies in the WPA region:

  • The American Red Cross®

  • The National Weather Service (NWS) State College, PA Office

  • The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)

  • The National Communications System

  • The Associated Public Safety Officers, Inc.

  • The Salvation Army SATERN Net

  • Others at a local level (ie: Fire Departments, Warming / Cooling Shelters, etc.)

  • PC-ARES provides auxiliary radio communications services to the American Red Cross Bradford Office for McKean & Potter Counties during any disaster needing our communications services.
  • PC-ARES is also a promoter and participant in the National Weather Service SkyWARN Weather Watch program to help provide early warning reporting of severe weather affecting the WPA Region.  We can call directly on the radio to report severe weather.
  • PC-ARES provides local DHS FEMA resources with auxiliary radio communications services to support FEMA activities during disaster recovery events.
  • PC-ARES also cooperates and has a liason with the Military Affiliated Radio Service - MARS
  • Many PC-ARES volunteers also participate in the National Traffic System - NTS providing their service and expertise in the message and traffic handling system important when normal telephone and internet systems are inoperative.
  • The Salvation Army Disaster Services Facilities are supported by PC-ARES by providing local auxiliary radio communications services and worldwide communications via the SATERN Net System.
  • PC-ARES is a part of the Western Pennsylvania ARES, a cooperative effort of the WPA Amateur Radio operator resources assembled to better serve the WPA region.
